Whittell Gardens
A rear extension of a Victorian house. BUILD's Award Winner 2023
The client's existing ground floor layout suffered from a small kitchen and cramped dining room, coupled with temperature extremes in the summer that made it difficult to use the kitchen and dining rooms. The wedge shape proposal was a response to the site constraints, providing the additional internal spaces the clients desperately needed without losing the rear garden space they loved and used so much. The design creates a covered transition space between the inside and the outside that doubles as solar shading/rain protection—allowing the clients to sit outside in the rain and not get wet.
